Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a physician referral?

No, is the short answer. Wisconsin is a direct access state which means that you are allowed to see a physical therapist with no referral or script.

However, some insurance companies may require a referral or script from your doctor if you want to submit your visit charges to your insurance company. This varies depending on your insurance provider. Many doctors will provide one for you if you call in a request or submit a request online, much like when you request a script for a medication refill. If you have any questions on this process, we are happy to guide you!

How long should I wait to get treatment after an injury?

This can vary by injury, however we do know this. The longer you wait to get treatment, the longer it will take to fix the injury and get you back to 100%.

We also know the the longer an injury has been present, the more loss of strength occurs. Which ultimately increases the likelihood of movement “compensations” developing that can lead to symptoms in other areas.

With all this, it is important to get treatment as soon as possible after an injury if you want to get better with the fewest possible sessions.

Will I have to stop participating in my sport/exercise while I am getting treatment?

Occasionally, however rarely, we recommend a complete rest from an activity. Instead, we often recommend you continue your sport/exercise to some degree while we are treating your injury, with modifications. At your evaluation and each treatment session, your physical therapist with determine which route with help you to your goals the fastest.

We pride ourselves on getting our patients back to the activities they love as soon as possible. Though full rest is occasionally necessary, we usually have patients performing variations of their activity of choice as we build a strong, pain-free foundation to ensure full injury recovery.

How soon will I feel an improvement in my symptoms?

It is always our goal that you experience some relief/change and improved movement at the completion of your first visit. You will not have full symptom resolution at this point but we will re-test movements at the end of your session to show you how your motion and symptoms have improved.
